Shopkeeper interview: Malik’s Honey 🍯

Online High Street is not just about high-quality products, our virtual high street is about people, our shopkeepers and our customers. We want to tell you their story and the “Why” behind their “What” and “Who”.
I had the privilege of interviewing one of Online High Street’s beautiful stores in Fulham, Malik’s Honey. Stay tuned to discover the touching story behind these delicious jars of organic honey.

Pure Raw Saffron & Blackseed-infused Honey from Malik’s Honey

Malik’s Honey is not just any honey store. They offer pure raw unheated honey along with their expert knowledge of varieties. Their expertly crafted honeys have different properties and tastes, which is why I thought that I needed to find out more about the passion behind their products.

My conversation with Malik’s honey gave me a strong impression of warmth and care, which made a lot of sense once they revealed the story behind their shop. Let’s jump to the questions and answers now!

1) How did Maliks Honey begin its journey? What is the story behind Maliks Honey?

“During the lockdown, we managed to get our hands on some honey from Algeria which is where we are originally from and we adored it so much that we started looking more into honey.

We were astonished to find out it is the third most adulterated food on the planet!

Essentially, people were not consuming real honey but rather overpriced syrup with heated honey mixed into it with basically no benefits as all of the enzymes from the honey were heated away.”

2) When did you start your business?

“We started in June 2022. I decided to finally make a move to change things and give people what they are after. Real honey and ensured all of our honey is lab tested for purity.”

3) What is something you are proud of?

“Something we are extremely proud of is that we named the honey after our first born who passed away.

It really fills me and my wife with joy to know his memory is a sweet one and to know his name is in cupboards all over the UK, it’s honestly indescribable.”

4) What made you choose Online High Street?

“Online High Street is an incredible concept, it was a no brainer. It’s great for people who want to support organically grown local businesses with great produce and also benefiting the local small independent retailer. Further to that, they are always on hand to answer questions and make everything work extremely efficiently!”

5) What is the best part of working at Maliks Honey?

“The best part of working at Malik’s honey is speaking to customers. Every communication I’ve ever had with a customer has been a learning one either for me or the customer, I’ve got to build great relationships with local businesses and with Online High Street, we are looking forward to having many more wonderful conversations with customers!”

6) What are your favourite products (honey varieties?)

“It’s so difficult to choose, my kids will not hesitate to choose the sweetest ones but I do love our local British honey which has a host of flavours as well as our organic Spanish mountain honey, as they are extremely versatile!”

7) Can you share a recipe that includes your honey for our readers?

“Our crushed blackseed and saffron infused honey goes incredibly well on roasted vegetables as a glaze. We’ve also made honey cake with our rosemary and orange honeys.

One of the best uses of honey is as a sugar replacement in warm drinks.

One to two teaspoons should do the trick!”
